RE : INVITATION TO JOIN THE TRANSPORT MINISTER DELEGATION TO PROMOTE LOGISTICS OPPORTUNITIES AT WESTPORTS MALAYSIA IN SHANGHAI & SHENZHEN , CHINA

With reference to Member Circular 021/2006 dated 25th March, 2006.

On the invitation by Westport to SFFLA to join the delegation to promote the Logistics Opportunities at Westports Malaysia, Port Klang in China.

Kindly be informed that your esteemed company could invite your clients/contact/partners in both the cities to participate this function. These details to be send to SFFLA Secretariat Office for compilation before sending to Westport by 1st April, 2006 to proceed with necessary.

The Breakdown of the pricing as below:

Flight from KL to Shanghai – RM2,251 (MAS) (2 way)
Room rates in Shanghai – RMNB 2,000 to RMNB 2,500

Flight from KL to Shenzhen – RM1,901 (MAS) (2 way)
Room rates in Shenzhen – RMNB 900 to RMNB 1,000

Exchange rate : RM 1.00 to RMNB 2.00

The delegation will visit 2 places : 1) Shanghai 10th April, 2006
2) Shenzhen 13th April, 2006

The delegation will comprise Minister of Transport, YB Dato’ Seri Chan Kong Choy and MOT officials, LPK officials, Westports officials & PKFZ officials.

SFFLA could like to extend this invitation for all members who are interested to participate.

4) Shipping agent Code No.

These data would be validated against data submitted by shipping agents.

All Members please ensure that these 4 data are submitted accurately, as failure will lead to error code from Customs.

RE : ASIA PACIFIC MARITIME (APM) 2006 FROM 22 – 24 MARCH, 2006
Please be informed that FMFF have organized a Malaysian Pavilion at the Asia Pacific Maritime (APM), 2006 to be held at Singapore on 22 – 24 March, 2006.

This is the first time Malaysia was extended the invitation to participate, and APM is hailed as Singapore’s foremost International Maritime Event.

As such FMFF will providing a 40 seater shuttle bus from Port Klang on 21st March, night (Tuesday) reaching Singapore on 22nd March (Wednesday) for the said Exhibition at NO COST for MEMBERS and will be hosted for lunch at the Exhibition.

Kindly register yourself, first come first serve basis by 17th March (Friday) before 10.00 am to enable us to do the necessary arrangement.

RE : COLLECTION OF DEPOT SERVICE CHARGES (DSC)

With reference to the Member Circular No. 002/2006 dated 12th January 2006 and 015/2006 dated 9th March and 016/2006 dated 13th March pertaining to the above issue.

Further to the numerous correspondence between SFFLA on behalf of members and other parties involved in this issue, SFFLA committee members would like to remind members to inform Secretariat in the event that there were any intentional problems caused by any of the listed Depot Operators.

In the meantime, it is our advise that members, when collecting to CMO for import containers, to ask carrier to indicate (in writing, if possible) that there will be no additional charges for returning the containers to the depots. Same goes for export containers, carriers should be asked to indicate that there is no additional charges for collection of containers, in their BOOKING CONFIRMATION.

Members should try, where possible to get confirmation in writing to enable SFFLA to have proper documentation in arguing for members' benefit.

We would advise that Carriers will be addressing the issue directly
with the container depots they use. For your information, a good
number of carriers have reported that they have received confirmation
from the container depots they use (including those among the 15)
that they will not apply the DSC.

Attached with this email / fax are letters to International Shipowners Association (ISOA) and Central Region Shipping Association (CRSA), and carbon copied (cc) to the Lembaga Pelabuhan Klang and FMM seeking their stance and opinions pertaining to DSC.

Meanwhile please see guidelines for Import and Export Containers in the event should here be any hiccups.
